We support a growing network of local groups across the UK and abroad, connecting members at regular meet-ups and events. Run by members for members, local groups are a great way to meet fellow authors in your area, share knowledge, support and inspire one another.
Whenever a new group is set up or an event scheduled in your area, we’ll email you to let you know. Due to Covid-19 restrictions local group activity is currently taking place online.
Find a group near you
Informal online meet-ups every two months, usually from 5.15-6.45pm on the first or second Tuesday in the month. Meet fellow authors in your area, share your work and discuss your current projects and publishing matters. The group is very well-connected with links to Aberystwyth University, local arts organisations, and Wales-based publishers.
The Bath Group was established started in 2018 and usually meet for lunch in central Bath. Events include practical talks by guest speakers with time to chat to fellow authors. The group will resume meeting when restrictions allow.
Brighton & Worthing Group
The Brighton and Worthing Group was established in November 2018 as an informal gathering of local members to socialise, support and advise one another. The group are currently meeting every two months online and hope to resume in person meetings.
The Chilterns Group was established in January 2021 and hosts monthly online meet-ups on Zoom. Sessions are informal and usually include a themed discussion in smaller groups using breakout rooms.
The Cornish Chapter is an informal group which meets around five times a year over lunch, sometimes featuring a guest speaker. We also have open forums on themes including agents and publishers and offer advice and support to one another. We will resume our meetings when restrictions allow.
This new group started in March 2021 and are currently meeting online for informal monthly sessions for members to . All welcome from the surrounding area. We hope to be able to meet up in person when restrictions allow.
Devon Writers Group
Established in 2010, Devon Writers Group host monthly online sessions for members to connect, chat and share advice. New members are always welcome!

Dunfermline and West Fife Group
Established in June 2021, the group hosts a mix of online and in person informal meet-ups for authors to connect.
East Anglian Writers
East Anglian Writers, based in Norwich, was formed in the 1960s. We aim to bring together professional authors working or living in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire. The group is currently seeking a volunteer to help run the group and organise occasional events. Please get in touch if you are interested.
East Midlands Group
The East Midlands Group is currently meeting online on the second Saturday of every month from 1pm. Come along to socialise and join in the discussions with your advice, experiences, questions and words of wisdom on all things literary. New members are always welcome!
Eastbourne, Lewes & Seaford Group
Established in November 2020, the group are currently meeting online for informal sessions to network, share and learn from one another. The group is aiming to meet alternately in person and online from summer 2021.
Established in November 2020, the group host monthly online sessions for SoA members across Germany to connect and share advice. Sessions usually include a talk from a member or themed discussion.
The Herefordshire Group was founded in 2019 and is currently seeking a volunteer to organise occasional informal meet-ups for SoA members in the local area to get together for an informal chat. Online sessions could include a short talk and Q&A with a group member or external speaker. The group used to meet in the Woolhope Room at Hereford Library from 11.30am on the fourth Friday of every other month. Please get in touch if you would like to volunteer to help run the group.
Hertfordshire Writers was founded in 2016. The group usually meets on the second Tuesday of every month in Hitchin but are currently meeting online. Meet-ups are informal and occasionally include a short talk and Q&A with a group member.
London Non-Fiction Group
The London Non-Fiction Group was founded in 2019 and are currently meeting online. SoA non-fiction writers get together for an informal chat to share their work and current projects, sometimes including a short talk and Q&A with a group member or external speaker. The group is friendly and supportive and new members are always welcome!
Established in January 2020, the group currently host online monthly meet-ups for members across Manchester. Sessions usually feature a themed discussion, talk from a group member or external speaker.
The Monmouth Group meets online on the first Friday of the month at 3pm. This is an informal meet-up for authors in the area to discuss their work and share advice on publishing. Members from the surrounding borders with Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire are welcome!
We represent a wide variety of writers, who formerly met for a monthly lunch at a Nice restaurant to discuss our work. For the time being, we are running monthly Zoom meet-ups. All members across France are welcome!
Novelists in London
Novelists in London is a friendly, informal group for fiction writers to get together, discuss their projects and support one another. We usually meet once a month in The Plough pub in Bloomsbury, but are currently meeting online.
Established in October 2020, the Oxfordshire Group host an informal online session once a month for members to chat and connect with authors in the area. The group are starting to meet in person from summer 2021.
Established in August 2020, the Putney Group host a monthly online meet-up for authors in south west London to meet, share ideas and support one another. Sessions are informal and sometimes include a themed discussion.
Scottish Non-Fiction Group
This new group began in April 2021 and hosts monthly online sessions for non-fiction authors from across Scotland to discuss the business of writing, the publishing industry and share advice. We hope to meet in person in the future but will continue online sessions so as many authors from across Scotland can join.
The group began meeting in March 2021 and host regular online sessions for members across Shropshire to connect, share advice and support one another.
Established in March 2021, the Somerset Group hosts monthly online meet-ups for authors across the area to connect and support one another. Sessions often include a themed discussion or member-led talk to share advice and learn new skills. The group will continue online sessions to be as inclusive as possible and welcome new members.
South West Writers Group
South West Writers Group is seeking a new organiser to take over running quarterly informal lunches at The White Hart Hotel in Salisbury. Events usually feature a talk from an author or industry speaker followed by lunch. If you are interested in running South West Writers, please get in touch!
Three Counties Lunch Group
Susan Purcell organises monthly lunches for members taking place in the Guildford and Haslemere area, usually with a speaker from the group. Members pay for their own food and drink and guests are welcome. We hope to resume these sessions when restrictions allow.
Tufnell Park Writers
Tufnell Park Writers meets online on the first Wednesday of every month from 7pm for an informal and friendly gathering where writers support, inspire and advise each other. We have themed discussions and occasional talks from members and industry figures. We hope to return to regular meetings at the Lord Palmerston pub in Tufnell Park, London.
Established in April 2020, the Warwickshire Group meet bi-monthly – online at present, but will meet in-person in Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Warwick on rotation. Events feature a themed discussion or talk. Sessions are informal for members to make connections and share advice on writing.
West Midlands Group
The West Midlands Group was established in October 2019 and hosted regular informal meet-ups for authors in the region. At the moment, the group aren’t currently meeting online. If you’d like to get involved in running the group, please get in touch!
Writers of Essex
Come along and meet fellow authors in your area, discuss your current projects and ideas, and chat about the highs and lows of writing. The group are currently meeting online but hope to resume meeting in the café area at Colchester Library and Community Hub.
