We drop in on bestselling author Jeffrey Archer in conversation with historical novelist Margaret Skea, member of the SoA’s Management Committee.

Jeffrey will discuss life, work and his creative routine, and offer a reading from his latest novel Turn a Blind Eye.

The event will take place on online via WebinarJam and the link will be sent to registered attendees.

Programme

2 minutes – Welcome from Margaret Skea

5-15 minutes – Discussion with Jeffrey Archer about his work and career, and glimpse into his creative routine

5 minutes – Jeffrey will do a short reading from his latest novel, Turn a Blind Eye

10 minutes – Advice for authors on staying creative and connected during the pandemic

10-15 minutes – Q&A from audience / sent in advance

Jeffrey Archer – Author

Jeffrey Archer has topped the bestseller lists around the world, with sales of over 275 million copies in 97 countries and more than 37 languages. The only author to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (19 times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries). He ran for Great Britain in 1966, served five years as an MP, and 28 years as a Member of the House of Lords, and is an amateur auctioneer, conducting around 15 charity auctions a year. He has been married to Dame Mary Archer, Chairman of the Science Museum Group, for 54 years. His latest novel Turn A Blind Eye, is the third in the new William Warwick books.

Margaret Skea – Historical novelist, SoA Management Committee


Margaret Skea is an award-winning author of five historical novels and one published collection of short stories. She is particularly interested in the twin challenges of bringing relatively unknown historical characters out of the shadows and providing an authentic ‘you are there’ experience for the reader.

Financial support for authors in need through the health crisis and beyond

Since March 2020, the Authors’ Contingency Fund has distributed over £1 million in small grants to authors facing financial hardship due to COVID-19.

With at least 57% of authors facing financial losses during the pandemic, we have helped people struggling financially due to contractual, employment and event cancellations, others who have lost income due to illness, and others prevented from working because of caring responsibilities.

As the health crisis continues, applications for grants continue to come in, and our emergency funds are running low.
