Bristol Group: Crowdfunding
28 November @ 12:00 - 13:00 GMT
Join the Bristol Group on Monday 28 November from 12pm for their next online session. This month we will be joined by authors Stephanie Bretherton, Stevyn Colgan and Robert Woodshaw as they gives us their insight on crowdfunding.
Crowdfunding is changing the shape of the publishing industry, shifting the balance of power from publisher to reader, but what are the pros and cons of crowdfunding a book? Three authors – all published by the world’s first crowdfunding publishing house, Unbound – share their experiences.
Expect an honest insight into the daunting prospect of crowdfunding, practical advice, anecdotes and a lively Q&A.
Stephanie Bretherton has spent many years pursuing alternative forms of storytelling, from stage to screen and media to marketing. With a lifelong fascination with science and spirituality, nature and culture (and what connects rather than separates) characterises her bestselling debut novel, Bone Lines (published by Unbound in 2018).
Stevyn Colgan is a visiting lecturer at several UK universities and a popular speaker at UK and international events such as TED, QEDcon, Nudgestock, the Ig Nobel Prizes, Latitude, the Hay Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe and many more. He has appeared on numerous podcasts and radio shows including Freakonomics, Do The Right Thing, Ex Libris, No Such Thing As A Fish, Little Atoms and Josie Long’s Short Cuts.
Robert Woodshaw studied English and Drama at the University of London – an experience that led to a brief career in casting, and assistant credits on several films, including Wonderland (1999) and 24 Hour Party People (2002). Come the mid-2000s, though, he realised he could no longer ignore an idea he’d been nurturing for a novel about Margaret Thatcher, and so he retreated to a small town in the foothills of the Italian Alps, took up a teaching position at a local secondary school, and put pen to paper.
