Dorset Group: Writing and Genre

25 May @ 14:00 - 15:00 BST

In lieu of face-to-face meetings, our network of local groups are hosting online meet-ups for members to catch up and stay in touch during lockdown.

Join our new Dorset Group for their second online meet-up on Tuesday 25 May from 2pm. SoA member Donald Nordberg will give a short talk on the dilemmas fiction authors face with genre and category choice.

Would-be authors of fiction face choices as soon as they start thinking about how to get published: What sort of a work is this? Where will the book sit on the shelf? What does the publisher tell the reader about what to expect? And then, where does it sit in the company of other works, and where do you sit in the company of other writers? Donald will talk about how authors – and audiences – make sense of a work of fiction, and what the implications are for the process of writing.

Following the talk, we will discuss our thoughts and responses in small groups before sharing with the wider group.

All members welcome from the surrounding area!

Local group online meet-ups are free to attend. To join us, click the Going button below and enter your details in the RSVP form. We’ll send you an email with a link to join us on Zoom.

If the confirmation email doesn’t arrive in your inbox, please check your junk mail folder! Please email us with any queries.
