Gloucestershire Group meet-up

20 July @ 14:30 - 16:30 BST

Free

Join the Gloucestershire Group on Thursday 20 July from 2.30pm-4.30 pm for their next supportive and friendly in person meet-up. Don’t worry if you were unable to attend previous sessions: come along, say hello and meet fellow SoA writers in your area.

This month, by popular request, a guest speaker will present to us, and facilitate a discussion around the topic of cultural appropriation. Dr Mike Johnston (the Scottish novelist D.D. Johnston) is a Senior Lecturer on the BA and the MA in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of Gloucestershire. He is author of The Deconstruction of Professor Thrub, Peace, Love and Petrol Bombs, The Secret Baby Room and Disnaeland (Barbican Press). One of his teaching modules concerns cultural and political issues for writers.

Following Mike’s talk, another group member will also report on an online session, ‘Literary Agents and Dead Authors’, tackling the important subject of protecting our literary and digital legacies.

We will meet at the Stonehouse Court Hotel, Bristol Rd, Stonehouse, Stroud GL10 3RA (between Stroud and the M5). We regret that on this occasion, members will have to negotiate steps into the restaurant area. More accessible permanent solutions are being sought.

Local group meet-ups are free to attend, but we’d appreciate your buying refreshments to support this generous venue. To ease payment for coffee or tea, please come with £3.25 in cash. To join us, click the Going button below and enter your details in the RSVP form so we have an idea of how many people to expect.
