11 April @ 14:00 - 15:00 BST

Join the Herefordshire Group on Tuesday 11 April from 2pm and hear from Simon Whaley on writing for magazines.

Breaking into the magazine market is one of the easiest ways to get published, but only if you undertake a little research first. In this talk on writing for magazines, Simon will explore why analysing a publication’s readership will improve your chances of acceptance, while also giving you more ideas. It’ll help you identify where in the magazine your idea best fits, so you know how much to write and what else to provide. Finally, we’ll look at pitching, and how to sell your idea before writing it.

Simon Whaley is a freelance writer, bestselling author and photographer. Over 800 of his features have appeared in magazines in the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada, including Coast, Outdoor Photography, Britain, The Countryman, This England, Explore England, The People’s Friend, Celtic Life International and The Author. Since 2014, he’s written the monthly Business of Writing column in Writing Magazine, and next month sees the start of his new column, Ask The Agent. For more information, visit www.simonwhaley.co.uk
