Manchester Group: Freedom of expression – how do we find common ground?

27 September @ 19:30 - 21:30 BST

Free

Join the Manchester Group on Monday 27 September from 7.30pm and take part in a discussion on freedom of expression.

How should authors respond in the wake of the recent controversy about Kate Clanchy’s Some Kids I Taught and What They Taught Me? Do we have a moral duty to avoid certain subjects and terminology? Or is it our right to write whatever we want, in whatever voices and from whatever perspectives? Recent events seem to indicate an imbalance. But in whose favour? And how can we find a common ground that enables freedom of expression for every author from every background?

We’ll debate these issues, socially distanced in the well-ventilated upstairs room at the Waldorf Pub, Gore Street, Manchester, M1 3AQ.

Local group meet-ups are free to attend. To join us, click the Going button below and enter your details in the RSVP form so we have an idea of how many people to expect. Please contact organiser Simon Michael with any questions.
