Manchester Group: Research Strategies for Writers
18 May @ 17:15 - 19:00 BST
Free
Join the Manchester Group on Thursday 18 May from 5.15pm for their next in person meet-up. The theme for this month is research strategies for writers.
Kate Mosse takes months to thoroughly research each book and her novel writing is a relatively quick process afterwards. Len Deighton maintained that 80% of any research never goes into a novel but it is crucial to his books. Ken Follett admits he pays a researcher to do the work.
Novels, especially historical fiction and crime/criminal procedurals require detailed research or we risk invoking the wrath of our readers. Non-fiction also requires critical research. What methods do we as writers undertake and to what depth? Where do the two disciplines meet and what tips can we offer our colleagues?
Come with your experience to share, ask questions and support one another at this informal session.
We’ll meet at The Portico Library, 57 Mosley Street, Manchester, M2 3HY at 5.15pm for a prompt 5.30pm start.
