Scottish Islands Group: Islands Writers
30 August @ 19:00 - 20:00 BST
Join the Scottish Islands Group for their next online session on Tuesday 30 August from 7pm. We’ll hear from author Donald Meek on an island between two languages: writing Tiree in Gaelic and English.
Donald will briefly discuss his own writing and reflect on how, and why, he has used one language or the other in his recent work. He will also share the differences he has noticed in retrospect before opening up to a discussion.
Donald E. Meek, a native of the Inner Hebridean island of Tiree, was Professor of Scottish and Gaelic Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He was previously Professor of Celtic at the University of Aberdeen from 1993 to 2001. He has written many articles and has edited numerous books, among them Tuath is Tighearna: Tenants and Landlords (1995).
All members welcome from all Scottish islands!
