West Yorkshire Group meet-up
13 October @ 12:30 - 13:30 BSTFree
Join the West Yorkshire Group on Thursday 13th October from 12.30-1.30pm for a lunchtime in person get-together. Two members of the group will share some of their work and then there will be an opportunity to chat in small groups to share experience and to socialise. Afterwards, feel free to stay in the ambient surroundings of Left Bank for an afternoon of self-led writing.
SoA member Andrew Bibby, one of the founder members of the author-run Gritstone Publishing Co-operative, will discuss the reasoning behind the co-op and why it can pay to produce and market our books through a shared joint brand. Gritstone specialises in books about the outdoors, the landscape, countryside, and natural history and is just about to branch out into publishing social history as well. The co-op has seven members, based primarily in Yorkshire.
Author and theatre maker Daniel Ingram-Brown (who helps to lead the West Yorkshire group) will talk about the process of creating a site-specific community production called The Crossing at Left Bank. In the production, audiences chose between four paths – north, south, east or west – activating performers hidden along the paths who told tales of rebirth from different parts of the world. The sell-out production involved over 70 community performers and production crew. Daniel was the lead writer and director for the project.
We’ll meet at Left Bank in the right hand corner of the venue. The venue’s café and bar will be open for refreshments. Left Bank is close to Burley Park train station and buses stop outside the venue. Please note – there is no designated parking at Left Bank, but you can park for free on the surrounding roads.
All welcome from the surrounding area!
