Writers of Essex: Writing the Past
18 June @ 12:00 - 14:00 BST
Free
Join Writers of Essex for their next in person meet-up on Saturday 18 June from 12pm. Hear from author Jan Williams as she discusses the importance of research within fiction and non-fiction. She’ll talk about her newest children’s novel, The Ghost of Pendleham Priory, a story set during early Tudor times where fourteen-year-old Isabel Calthorpe is sent to a Suffolk convent for a genteel education on the eve of the Dissolution only to learn of the evils of Henry VIII’s commissioners.
Jan’s talk will continue with her memoir, Bells Across Old Cardigan Bay: A Memoir of a Borth Master Mariner where she unearths her family history in Wales and highlights her great-grandfather’s adventure with a sinking ship in 1882. Jan will speak for 30 minutes with another 30 minutes for Q&A.Â
After Jan’s talk, there is plenty of time to chat to fellow authors and attendees and network.
This session will take place at Colchester Library and Community Hub in Colchester Town Centre.Â
