A. S. Byatt, DBE is a Booker Prize-winning writer of novels and short stories, including Possession, The Virgin in the Garden, Still Life, Babel Tower, A Whistling Woman and The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye. She served as Chair of the Management Committee from 1986 to 1988 and has judged various literary prizes including the Booker and the SoA’s Betty Trask Prize. In 1990 she was appointed CBE and in 1999 made a DBE.
